Places To See In Delhi: Real Experience

Places to see in Delhi: Real Experience

Delhi boasts of a unique mix of people, things and experiences. New Delhi is the capital of India, and it is also the crime capital of the world! It is the most developed and modern city in India, but it is also a place where there are more reported number of rapes than any other city. Anyway, to put aside the statistics for once, Delhi is no doubt an experience that will eave a lasting experience. You will see political rallies and protests, top notch parties that last into the dawn everyday. You will find underground music scenes and gay bars, and shopping malls that would have Dubai abashed.

While most tourists get trapped in the tourist traps, here is a list of places to see in Delhi which I recommend to have a real experience of this grand city. Also read my post Crazy Parties & Delhi Bellies to know more about this backpacking Delhi.

India Gate at sunset
The experience of an evening walk at the India Gate can be more rewarding than you can imagine. Romantic, even. Take a walk, buy an ice cream or snack from the many stalls, and sit on the grass enjoying the grandeur of the lit up Gate.

Spend a day at Dilli Haat

The permanent art and craft bazaar in Delhi is a lively place to spend a day. Looks like a village market and feels like a fair. Get your hair braided, enjoy shopping or window shopping for ethnic Indian handicrafts and art, eat great Indian food, watch snake charmers at the peak of their business skills, and get a fish pedicure to round it off.

Known as Agrasen Ki Baoli, a quiet, rustic monument with 103 steps leading to the bottom. Thankfully tourism hasn’t quite caught up with this hidden beauty, and you will not see hoards of noisy guides, tourists and salesmen around. You can enjoy the peaceful tranquility of this gorgeous moment in peace.
Apart from this, a popular (informal) hangout is the North Campus of Delhi University. The huge and scenic campus is laced with trees, spacious grounds, old and new buildings, chai shops, cafeterias. You will find a wide variety of people hanging around some of the ‘addas’ or informal spots.
Hope you find many candid experiences in every step of your journey. Also read my post Crazy Parties & Delhi Bellies to know more about this backpacking Delhi.
